AirPods – regardless of the model – a great gift for any occasion, and especially for the New Year. Apple Wireless Headphones they give to everyone without exception, as they sang in one song: young and old, bald and shaggy. For some, this is a fashion accessory that stylishly peeks out of the ears with white temples, for others it is a status item, for others it is a means of listening to music, and for others it is something else. It does not matter which category you belong to, given that such an affiliation can be transferable. What is more important to know use your AirPods wisely.
How to find your AirPods
The first thing that worries new headphone owners is how to find AirPods in case of loss. Previously, this was quite problematic, because the iPhone only remembered the last place where the connection was broken. But now, thanks to an update to the Find My app, it’s even possible to find lost AirPods.
Only two models support this feature – AirPods Pro and AirPods 3 – but it’s better than nothing, right? Tethered to Latitude, the headphones are pumped to Apple’s vast infrastructure and continuously emit a Bluetooth Low Energy distress signal, which is received by the devices of people passing by.
AirPods are tied to Latitude automatically. Therefore, make sure you have the latest OS version installed, and then log in to Latitude to check that the headphones are associated with the account. Just in case, turn on the alert function in case you leave them and start moving away.
AirPods – switching between devices
AirPods are a deeply ecosystem device. Therefore, it is not surprising that they can automatically switch between different devices that you use. The main thing is that they should all be tied to the same Apple ID account. Otherwise, the switch will not work.
But in order for everything to work, the switch must be activated:
- Connect AirPods iPhone and open “Settings”;
- Select Bluetooth and press “i” next to AirPods;
- Go to the “Connect to this iPhone” tab;
- Turn on the “Last connected to iPhone” feature.
This setting enables the mechanism automatic switching between devices. If your AirPods are placed in your ears, and after using them on your iPhone, you put it aside and start using your other device, the headphones themselves will determine this and connect to that device without your participation.
Notifications in AirPods – how to set up
AirPods are not just headphones, but a wearable device whose mission is to make life easier for its users. So Apple taught them notify us of incoming notifications. Headphones will detect fresh notifications and read the content into your ear with Siri’s voice, without requiring you to get your iPhone and pick it up.
- Open the “Settings” app on iPhone”;
- Go to the system section “Notifications”;
- Select the “Announce Notifications” tab;
- Turn on Headphones to use them.
In addition to passively reading messages, AirPods support Siri, so you can send a reply to an incoming message. It is enough to tell the voice assistant about this, then dictate the text of the message and confirm its sending – it will go to the recipient automatically.
AirPods Pro drop out. What to do
As comfortable as the AirPods Pro are, there are many people who don’t like the included ear pads. Headphones simply fall out of the ears of these users even at rest, not to mention walking or playing sports. What to do with it? Of course, use ear cushions with memory effect.
They are made from a special foam material that takes any shape and adjusts to your ears. The effect is achieved almost instantly. It is enough to replace the complete ear pads with these and put on the headphones. You will immediately feel that the headphones no longer fall out.
The foam ear cushions are so soft that they can easily fit even into narrow ear canals. After you insert them there, the foam will gradually straighten out, filling all the voids around the edges. Due to this, it is possible to achieve a tighter fit without the slightest sign of falling out.
How to manage AirPods Pro
If you’ve just upgraded to AirPods Pro or AirPods 3 from older models, you’ll probably get used to the new control system for a while. Newer generations of headphones use a compression technique rather than a swipe technique. In their bow is hidden a special sensor that recognizes pressing, like those that are responsible for the operation of the 3D Touch interface.
And here is an educational program for you to manage the new AirPods:
- One squeezing of the bow – play or pause;
- Double squeezing the bow – fast forward;
- Triple bow compression – rewind;
- A single squeeze during an incoming call is an answer;
- Double compression during an incoming call – reset;
- Squeeze and long hold – call Siri.
AirPods Pro let you customize controls and replace the long hold calling Siri with something else. For example, you can choose to enable or disable Active Noise Cancellation technology. AirPods 3 do not have active noise reduction, so in their case there will simply be nothing to change Siri for.
AirPods Pro Spatial Sound
Spatial sound is a new feature that has become available to AirPods owners of all current models when listening to music. It creates the effect of three-dimensional sound, and thanks to the motion tracking function, it is complemented by a variable sound panorama just like in a real concert.
- Connect AirPods to iPhone and open Control Center;
- Press and hold the volume change icon;
- At the bottom of the screen, click “Stereo in space”;
- Select Static or Head Tracking.
The last option allows you to enable or disable the optional head tracking effect. It is meant to mimic the feel of a real concert, when the direction of the sound coming from the stage changes depending on which direction your head is turned.
