One AirPods plays quieter than the other. What to do

AirPods 3

After Apple released the most first generation AirPods, six years have passed, and our perception of headphones has changed a lot. It’s becoming less and less common to see wired options in people’s ears, and more and more users of TWS headphones come across, especially after their prices have plummeted. What did you do if one of the wired headphones started playing quieter? Most likely, they understood that there was some kind of problem with the cord, and subconsciously put up with the imminent purchase of new ones.

In the case of AirPods, the problem with the wire disappears by itself, so the solutions here are somewhat different. Understanding what to do if one AirPods began to play quieter than the other. This manual is relevant for headphones AirPods of all generationsincluding for AirPods Pro.

AirPods – sound balance

First of all, if you encounter a problem with the sound in one of the AirPods, you need to make sure that the balance is correctly set in the parameters. It is possible that you played with the settings and shifted it to one side, and then simply forgot about it. To do this, do the following:

  • Open settings.
  • Go to the “Universal Access” section.
  • Select “Audio Visualization”.
  • Scroll down to the “Balance” slider and set it exactly in the middle to a value of 0.00.

After that, I advise you to immediately check how your headphones sound. It may not be the headphones at all, but what kind of music you listen to. Very often, stereo sound and surround sound create the effect that the sound in one of the headphones is not as loud as in the other. In pursuit of volume, sometimes such an incident turns out. Therefore, after checking the balance, you should disable spatial audio and activate mono sound to check the overall headphone volume:

  • Connect AirPods to iPhone.
  • Open settings and go to AirPods options.
  • Scroll to the very bottom and select “Accessibility”.
  • Turn off the toggle switch “Like on iPhone” in the “Spatial audio with head tracking” block.
  • Return to settings.
  • Go to the “Universal Access” section.
  • Select “Audio Visualization”.
  • Activate the “Mono Audio” switch.

When you have done all these steps, start the music you are listening to and enjoy the sound in your headphones. When turned on mono, each of the headphones reproduces exactly the same sound. The music becomes a little flat, but this allows you to evaluate the performance of the headphones quite clearly.

Equalizer – AirPods

If you continue to pick up different volumes in each of the headphones, then you need to continue to disable the functions that can lead to this. Next, you need to put the equalizer under the knife:

  • For Apple Music users:
  • For Yandex Music users:

After turning off the equalizer, I recommend checking the performance of the headphones. It is possible that he influenced different volume in each of the AirPods.

How to Connect AirPods to Android

But disabling all these options may not help solve the volume issue. In such a situation, one should connect AirPods to another device. And the best option would be establish a connection with a smartphone on Android, a Windows PC, or any Apple device that doesn’t work with your Apple ID. To connect AirPods, do the following:

  • Open the case cover.
  • Hold down the button on your AirPods until the light blinks white.
  • Go to the Bluetooth settings of the device you want to connect the headphones to.
  • Set up a connection.

Play some music. Preferably the one you’re trying to listen to on your iPhone. If the problem persists, then the last software solution to the problem is factory reset AirPods. To do this, use our instructions. It details how you can easily reset and reconnect your headphones to the desired device.

How to clean AirPods

It may not help your problem either. And then there are only two ways to get out of the situation. The first one is clear airpods from dirt and debris. Unfortunately, headphones tend to get dirty over time, so you should periodically clean them. You can do this in the following way:

  • Take any brush with soft bristles.
  • Position the earpiece so that the mesh is vertical.
  • Gently from top to bottom, without much pressure on the mesh, clean off the dirt, gently blowing it off. When doing this, do not use compressed air so as not to blow all the debris into the earpiece.
  • After the brush, take the putty for watch mechanisms, which costs a symbolic 140 rubles, and collect all the dirt that you have cleaned out. Do not try to do this with your fingers, as on the contrary, press it back.

If you are afraid to clean your headphones yourself, then I advise you to turn to professionals. The Apple Pro Service Center will clean your AirPods with no problem, and they will sound like new. And if cleaning doesn’t help, Apple Pro experts can help you replace the defective earbud with a new one.
