In general, you can leave the headphones on the device they are paired with, but after reconnecting, a new pair will be created. Therefore, so that their number does not increase and does not confuse, it is better to safely remove them and forget about it.

Reset AirPods Max

If you own AirPods Max, here the reset is done a little differently due to the presence of several buttons on the headphone case. Disconnecting from the device in this situation is carried out in the same way as on regular AirPods. But the reset itself is different:

  • Make sure your AirPods Max are sufficiently charged. Otherwise, charge the earbuds and remove them from the case.
  • Hold down the wheel and the noise canceling control button until the indicator flashes amber and then white.

After that, you can put the headphones in the case and, if necessary, connect to the desired device in the standard way. Be sure to check that the headphones are sufficiently charged before resetting. This applies not only to AirPods Max, but also to regular AirPods and AirPods Pro. Otherwise, the reset may fail. If the headphones are not charging, check the connector or make sure that the ears are fully inserted into the case. This will ensure that errors are avoided.

If you plan to sell your headphones, I advise you to additionally make sure that they are Unlinked from Apple ID. To do this, you need to use the application Locator on iPhone or iPad or web version via iCloud.com:

  • Go to iCloud.com.
  • Sign in with your Apple ID.
  • Select the Locator section in the new version of the site or Find My iPhone in the old one.
