How did the price of Apple equipment in Russia increase after the growth of the dollar

Iphones

After a sharp jump in the dollar to record levels, which occurred at the end of last week, prices for Apple equipment in Russia crossed new horizons. The DNS was the first to react, rewriting the price tags on Thursday. Such efficiency interested the FAS. The department even started proceedings against the trading network, but no one began to force it to return the old prices. Moreover, gradually many retailers began to follow the example of the DNS, as a result of which there were almost no those who would trade iPhones at old prices. Let’s try to figure out how much they have grown.

Though rising prices for Apple equipment in Russia Inevitably, not everyone is in a hurry to do this. Retailers are trying to get out of the situation as best they can in this difficult time. Some stoically sell stock balances bought before the dollar jump at the old prices, albeit canceling all discounts.

Others simply chose to suspend sales until the situation was clarified. And the third – brought to the front refurbished iPhone old generations, offering only them for purchase. However, those who do their best to avoid price increases are still in the minority.

New iPhone prices in Russia

To begin with, I propose to identify those who – sorry for the tautology – have not yet decided. We are talking about retailers that have not yet changed prices, and therefore do not sell iPhone or other Apple devices. That is, you simply cannot buy anything from the “apple” from them.

It is interesting that Svyaznoy unexpectedly got into this list, who changed prices immediately after DNS, but then – apparently, frightened by the FAS – decided to roll everything back. On the websites of all these retailers iPhone and other Apple devices listed as not available for sale.

And here is how prices have changed in the official retail of the MTS operator:

  • iPhone 11 64 GB: it was – 49,990 rubles, it became – 71,890 rubles
  • iPhone 12 128 GB: it was – 69,990 rubles, it became – 102,690 rubles
  • iPhone 12 Pro 128 GB: it was – 77,990 rubles, it became – 118,190 rubles
  • iPhone XR 64 GB: it was – 44,990 rubles, it became – 55,890 rubles
  • iPhone SE 64 GB: it was – 39,990 rubles, it became – 57,190 rubles
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max 128 GB: – it was 89,990 rubles, it became – 129,890 rubles
  • iPhone 12 mini 128 GB: it was – 49,990 rubles, it became – 89,690 rubles
  • iPhone 13 128 GB: it was – 79,990 rubles, it became – 114,390 rubles
  • iPhone 13 mini 128 GB: it was – 69,990 rubles, it became – 100,090 rubles
  • iPhone 13 Pro 128 GB: it was – 99,990 rubles, it became – 188,990 rubles
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max 128 GB: it was – 109,990 rubles, it became – 205,990 rubles
  • iPhone 13 Pro 1 TB: it was – 149,990 rubles, it became – 279,990 rubles

Buy a refurbished iPhone

The table above shows that iPhone prices adjusted without strict reference to the dollar exchange rate. In any case, if we consider it as a percentage, then the increase ranged from 20 to 85%. With what exactly this is connected, it is difficult to say. Perhaps the whole point is the lack of official guidelines. Despite the fact that price coordination is prohibited in our country, retailers usually focused on prices in official Apple online storeand now they don’t have that option.

They acted very cunningly at Megafon. Operator retail has withdrawn from sale all iPhones released after 2019, leaving only refurbished iPhone XS and XS Max, as well as the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. Since these are far from new devices, they are sold for quite adequate money by today’s standards:

  • iPhone XS 64 GB (like new) – 42,990 rubles
  • iPhone XS Max 64 GB (like new) – 44,990 rubles
  • iPhone XS 512 GB (like new) – 49,990 rubles
  • iPhone XS 256 GB (like new) – 38,990 rubles
  • iPhone XS Max 256 GB (like new) – 45,990 rubles
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max 256 GB (like new) – 74,990 rubles
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max 64 GB (like new) – 69,990 rubles

In general, if you do not take into account that a week ago for 50k you could buy iPhone 12, then the prices by today’s standards look quite adequate. At the end of the day, the iPhone XS – especially the Max – is still a good device that supports all the key features of iOS 15. So if you haven’t bought an iPhone at the old prices, iPhone XS or XS Max might be a good way out for you. Good to a certain extent.
