4 features of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus that you might not know about

Against the backdrop of news about how cool the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max turned out to be, many somehow undeservedly forgot about the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus: it is believed that the iPhone 14 is generally an exact copy of the iPhone 13, and the Plus version is a kind of economy -iPhone 14 Pro Max variant. It’s especially a shame for the base iPhone 14, although it has a lot of small features that not only make it better than the iPhone 13, but also make life easier for future owners. We talk about small and barely noticeable iPhone 14 changes and 14 Plus, which almost no one knows about.

iPhone 14 repair

At first sight, external differences between iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 no – both smartphones are identical, except for the body colors. But that’s not the case: according to TechCrunch, the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus feature a removable glass back panel, making repairs much easier. This hasn’t happened since the iPhone 4S! Let me remind you to replace rear glass on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, it was necessary to disassemble the smartphone almost completely, taking out all the internal components from the case, and on the iPhone 11 and older models, they completely change the entire device.

So, the new method is not only economical in terms of resource consumption and repairs, but also more environmentally friendly. By the way, it is likely that this is a feature of exclusively basic models: there is no information that the back panel can be easily removed on the iPhone 14 Pro. Therefore, the owners of the iPhone 14 are very lucky!

iPhone 14 camera

They say that the camera in the iPhone 14 has not changed. And if it has changed, then only by software. This is not true: yes, these are still the same 12-megapixel lenses, only with a larger aperture and new lenses – this will allow you to take better pictures in low light. Don’t forget about Photonic Engine – a new generation of Deep Fusion, which allows you to make one perfect picture from several shots, as well as Action Mode – shooting while moving the base iPhone 14 will be as if a stabilizer was added to it.

Front camera iPhone 14 shoots 38% better, and it also has autofocus – so it will fix the object at any distance if you want to take a selfie. In an age where many users are more likely to use the iPhone’s front camera more often, this is a major improvement, especially for a basic iPhone.

Always On Display on iPhone

Many were outraged that the basic versions of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus did not get an always-on screen. How so? The fact is that it works differently – for this, a new A16 Bionic chip is needed: only it has a separate Display Engine coprocessorwhich regulates the operation of the screen, providing peak brightness (did you notice that such an item has now appeared on the Apple website in the comparison of iPhones?), But also the work of Always On Display: this is a controller that controls the refresh rate and reduces it to 1 Hz.

It also smooths out the animation around the new iPhone 14 Pro notch. In general, the Always On Display in the new iPhone is not a simple screensaver, like on Android, but a complex technology. That is why there is no such chip on the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, and even on the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.

Auto brightness in iPhone 14

It would seem that all smartphones have the same sensors, the iPhone is no exception. What can you think of? But no luck: it turned out that all iPhone 14 models have a new light sensor on the back. It helps to adjust the brightness of the display and determine the exposure for the main camera. There are two of them – front and back.

This is easily determined: when you enter a dark room, you will find that the auto-brightness of the screen is adjusted instantly, with which previous models have always had problems. It is noteworthy that Apple kept silent about this at the presentation, and a similar solution was implemented in Xiaomi Mi 10 two years ago.

And Apple surprised everyone without exception by removing the SIM card slot from the iPhone 14 for the US. And this is not surprising: Steve Jobs dreamed of such a smartphone, which means that iPhone without connectors will appear very soon. A hint of such a technological solution became known long before the presentation: earlier we wrote that iOS 16 introduced the function of quickly transferring eSIM from an old iPhone to a new one – be sure to read to be aware!
